This repentance shows that Davis society is a very fundamentalist, and in many ways also a Extremist a community for whatever religion it is they follow. I believe that this society has some sort of resemblance to Christianity as it seems have very similar beliefs and morals. In David’s society there are people that live on the fringes, these people are all outcasts because there appearance is not conceived as “normal”. This idea is presented to us very early in the novel, when David meets a girl named Sophie, who has 6 toes on each foot and therefore does not fit into the category of “normal” and therefore if the people of Waknuk were to find out about this abnormality should would almost certainly be exiled.

I believe that as we get deeper into the book this repentance will start to play a larger role with the girl Sophia, that is now friends with David. I believe that she will be found out, because of David being careless with the secret he must keep for the wellbeing of Sophie. I think that David will accidently tell someone of higher power, because the more David hangs out with Sophie the more he will get used to her “different,” toes and in the long run he will let it slip.

In my life, or everybody’s life for that matter, we see everyday people who are fundamentalists as well as occasionally extremists. There are many people that will go to lengths of killing for the, exposure and longevity of their religion, ideologies, and morals. An example of this is the Taliban who kill every day, so as to stop other religions from thriving and even existing. A less commonly known example, that relates even closer to the book, is Christians and other religions who will discriminate and exile homosexuals and will go to unbelievable lengths to stop abortion.  Just as being a “mutant” is not one’s choice, having a baby because of , rape or other unfortunate events is not one’s choice and therefore they should be given the option to abort their child.
